I've been bad about blogging lately because I've been pretty much staying put since I got back from home! This past weekend I finally got moving a bit. I went to Paris for the weekend, and on Saturday went to a town called Saumur for the night for a housewarming party. I didn't even realize, but it's actually only 2 hours from the west coast of France. That's pretty much the complete opposite end of where I live! It was a long trip to make just for one night, but it was worth it.
On Friday night we visited the Eiffel Tower to see the light show! Seeing the Eiffel Tower is one thing that will never get old. One disturbing thing about the visit: I noticed that they are currently installing nets all under the tower. It was explained to me they're doing that because many people kill themselves by jumping off the tower, and they're trying to prevent that. Umm what? That's a big problem. They also have been installing double doors in all of the metro stops to prevent people from jumping onto the tracks to commit suicide. Is parisian life really that bad, guys?
Onto a happier note, on Sunday we visited the town of Tours, which is where I was supposed to study abroad in 2006. They changed the program just a few months before we left, so I was always wondering what I missed by not going to Tours. The town is located right in the middle of castle country, the Loire Valley, where all the famous French kings built their castles back in the day. The town itself was pretty, the old town was very picturesque! We didn't have time to visit any of the famous castles in the area, I'll have to save that for another trip! The weird thing about Tours is that there seemed to be a disturbing amount of homeless people, but besides that we enjoyed our visit. I would love to see more of the region one day..
