Prauthroy and Dijon

On Thursday we went to see Thibaut's grandparents in Dijon for the night.  I'd met them once before for his grandma's birthday last June, but there was a big party and I didn't get to spend much time with them.  They are both 90 years old, and they are still going strong.  They live by themselves, his grandpa drives (even though I almost had a heart attack in the car) and they go back and forth to their country home, which they took us to for the day since it was really nice out.  The country house is in a place called Prauthroy, about an hour north of Dijon by car.  The amazing part is that his grandma was actually BORN in this house, like in the upstairs bedroom.  Crazy.

Next door to the main house, there's another smaller house, which has been in her family since the 1800's.  They have since rebuilt the house next door and live in that one, but the old one still is perfectly intact.  It was like walking back in time!  They used to sleep in closets next to the fireplace to stay warm in the winter, and the whole family slept together in one room.

Afterwards we went back to Dijon, and had dinner at their house.  His grandpa whipped out a bottle of vintage 1985 Burgundy wine, which is the year we both were born.  He didn't even mention anything and it took us a little while to realize when the bottle was from.  It was pretty good for a 26 year old bottle of wine!

don't worry gramps, we don't need thibaut's head in the picture.  oh and i've got my asian glow thanks to the red wine :)

the magical orchid

Is this normal?  I don't know much about plants so it probably is, but I am amazed.  Thibaut gave me this orchid for Valentine's day, and at that time it had 2 flowers on it.  I went on vacation for a week with my family and expected to come back to a dead plant, but I came back to an even prettier one.  Now it's been over a month and a half and look at this thing!  Not one dead flower.  I'm very proud of my plant-caring skills, I must say.
